If you envy Linux users for their fancy package managers like apt-get, rpm, etc. RealDimensions came up with a great solution for Windows users.
Chocolatey is the new package manager for Windows that helps in managing all aspects of Windows software (installation, configuration, upgrade and uninstallation).
It can be used in a lot of use-cases. For example, you can save a batch file with installation commands to be later executed after a clean Windows installation in order to maintain your software list.
Installing Chocolatey is very simple, you just need to open your cmd with admin privileges and then paste the following code:
@powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "iex ((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString('https://chocolatey.org/install.ps1'))" && SET "PATH=%PATH%;%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\chocolatey\bin"
Examples of using Chocolatey (first open your cmd with admin privileges):
- choco search avast
- choco info avastfreeantivirus
- choco install avastfreeantivirus
- choco upgrade nodejs
- choco uninstall nodejs
